Level 1

Two-Dimensional Hologram

Light diffracting images that exhibit dimensional characteristics. When turned or viewed from a variety of angles, the image appears to move or change.

Guilloche Security Printing

Guilloche patterns combine complex line details in an animated wave pattern.

Kinetic/Animation Effects

Kinetic patterns are a series of complex straight lines or shapes. As the viewing angle of the card is changed, the kinetic image moves across the card, giving it the effect of motion.

Two-Channel Image (Flip Image)

A holographic optical feature that consists of two distinct images (art or text) that occupy the same space within the hologram. The hologram then shifts from one image to the second by slightly rotating the angle of the image from right to left.

Latent Image (Ghost Image)

A holographic optical feature that consists of an image (usually a repeating text pattern) that is originated in the hologram so that it refracts light, and is therefore only apparent to a viewer at an extreme viewing angle.

Pseudo Color

A holographic optical effect that allows for the assignment of approximate coloration to holographic artwork, therefore enabling the image to appear in near "true color" at a specific viewing angle.

Microtext Printing

MicroText

Fine text printing at 8x, 10x and 12x readable.

UV Ink and/or Mica Flip Ink

Under a UV or black light, UV ink fluoresces bright blue. Under normal light, mica ink will shift colors at another viewing angle.

Level 3

Laser Retrievable Covert Text

Covert text is embedded into a custom hologram OVD (optically variable device) or custom guilloche OVD. This allows an examiner to reveal and read a text message using a standard red laser pen.

SecureText™ Microtext Printing

High resolution holographic imagery that exceeds 3200 dots per inch (DPI).

Readable by using a handheld magnification device or microscope only.

Plastic ID Card Image Degradation Mechanisms

ID card laminating machines help prevent damage to plastic cards. Some of the common causes of plastic ID card degradation include:

Chemical Impact:

Chemical Impact: Chemicals such as plasticizers, cosmetics, skin oils, etc. Plasticizers used to construct the vinyl pouches found in most wallets can penetrate a card surface and extract the dyes used to print photos and other images.

Abrasions: Repeated swipes through a card reader can remove printed images from a plastic card.

Humidity & Moisture:

Humidity, perspiration, and other moisture can attack or weaken the adhesion of poor-quality protective layers, causing blistering or delamination.

Ultraviolet Exposure: Prolonged exposure to sunlight and other UV sources can fade printed images on plastic cards or turn the card stock yellow. It can also degrade protective layers.
